CASA CAN BERNAT - FARMHOUSE
Can Bernat is one of those farmhouses that commands respect from the very first moment. Located in the village of Breda and built in the late 19th century, we found a property with a strong presence, yet in need of a careful intervention to unlock its full potential.
The project was approached with a holistic vision, understanding the farmhouse not just as a building, but as a set of interconnected spaces shaped by a way of living. The main house, arranged over a ground floor and two upper levels, is linked to a former annex that was historically used for livestock, now integrated into a coherent and fully functional whole.
One of the key elements of the intervention was the courtyard, spanning over 500 m², which was completely reimagined as a true outdoor living space. A single covered structure was preserved and now serves as a summer dining area, reinforcing the Mediterranean lifestyle of living outdoors. The kitchen was strategically relocated with direct access to the courtyard, creating a natural flow between interior and exterior.
Inside, the bathrooms were fully renovated and the attic space was converted into a warm and inviting area, expanding the home’s possibilities. Throughout the project, the aim was to balance respect for the original elements with the integration of modern comforts, resulting in a farmhouse that is both functional and comfortable, with a strong sense of identity.
Ultimately, Can Bernat is a contemporary reinterpretation of a traditional home—designed for sharing, for slow living, and for enjoying both indoor and outdoor spaces with ease and authenticity.
